Hey there Eastpoint Church,

We are celebrating!

This is an important moment in the life of our church. As we publicly recommend to you a new Elder candidate, I want to be clear – this is a major milestone moment. This is a sign of health to be celebrated.

The emergence of new elders shows that followers of Jesus are growing and maturing at Eastpoint. It’s evidence that men are growing and aspiring to take on the sacrificial, burden-bearing responsibility of caring for God’s flock. The church is alive, the Spirit is present, people are growing, and now even more people will be cared for and shepherded well. An anemic church depends on one guy at the front, but a healthy church is cared for by a plurality of elders. Thank you, Lord.

A growing congregation requires a growing number of shepherds. Last year, a man of strong moral character who has already demonstrated an ability and a desire to shepherd others was invited into a 7-month training course. Over the course of these months, he spent time learning and discussing theology and leadership, reading books about eldering, and completing online content from Western Seminary’s Center for Leadership Development.

The last step of this process involves you. We have a high degree of confidence that he has the “head, heart, and hands” necessary to shepherd. However, we’re looking for affirmation, feedback, and/or concerns from you, our congregation.

We’re going to spend the next month praying, seeking God’s mind, and processing your feedback. After that, we’ll share the results of the process.
